Stretching and Self-Massage for the Upper Body

with Kate Somerville

Feel the love emanating from your own two hands, as Kate, a practicing massage therapist for over 14 years, guides you through a series of stretching and massaging techniques to release tension in your head, neck, and shoulders. You will leave feeling relaxed and empowered to heal your body, mind, and spirit, with a few simple moves that can be done just about anywhere.

Depending on class size, there will be some time to address specific issues or questions you may have. No equipment necessary. Chairs are available if you prefer not to sit on the floor. Come dressed comfortably, to sit and stretch gently.

About Kate:

Kate Somerville is the owner and principle massage therapist of Saltwater Wellness (@saltwater_wellness_maine) on Brighton Avenue in Portland. She began practicing therapeutic massage in 2011 and added Thai bodywork to her toolkit in 2016. She has always been curious about movement, breath, and meditation, and how these practices can connect us to ourselves, to each other, and to the greater whole.

Having dabbled in the yoga world for nearly two decades, she became fully enamored when she tried her first Yin Yoga class in 2021, and then Restorative Yoga shortly thereafter. She is thrilled to add these transformative practices to her ongoing studies in other systems from around the world, including Reusi Dat Ton, Tao Yin, and Qi Gong.

Kate teaches classes focused around centering, grounding, and finding the strong places within ourselves to heal and nourish our bodies and spirits from a place of empowerment and love. Whether the message is to be strong, or to surrender, Kate believes that compassion and safety are key, and that we cannot truly help each other if we are not first helping ourselves.

She is grateful to her many teachers, and for the opportunity to share these impactful practices with others.
